1. Date the Check

The first step in filling out a check is to write the date on the top right corner of the check. Make sure to write the date in the format your bank prefers, typically MM/DD/YYYY. This date is important as it indicates when the check was written and can be used to track your financial transactions.

2. Write the Payee

Next, locate the “Pay to the Order of” line, usually found in the center of the check. Write your name exactly as it appears on your bank account. If you’re writing a check to yourself, you can write “Cash” or “For Deposit Only” in this line. However, writing “Cash” can make it easier for someone else to cash the check, so it’s best to write “For Deposit Only” for added security.

3. Write the Amount in Numbers

Below the “Pay to the Order of” line, you’ll find a section for writing the amount in numbers. 4. Write the Amount in Words

6. Sign the Check

Finally, sign the check on the bottom right corner, where the signature line is located. Make sure your signature matches the one on file with your bank. It’s also a good idea to write the date again after your signature, as some banks may require this for verification purposes.
