Ingredients
– 1 cup of channa (chickpeas)
– 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
– 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds

– 2 cloves of garlic, minced
– 1 inch piece of ginger, minced
– 1 green chili, slit
– 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
– 1 teaspoon of red chili powder
– 1 teaspoon of coriander powder
– 1 teaspoon of cumin powder
– 1 teaspoon of garam masala
– 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
– Salt to taste
– 1 cup of water
– Fresh coriander leaves for garnishing
Instructions
1. Rinse the channa (chickpeas) under running water and soak them in water for at least 4 hours or overnight. Drain the water and cook the channa in a pressure cooker with 1 cup of water until they are soft. Set aside.
2. Heat the vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and let them splutter.
3. Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
4. Add the minced garlic, ginger, and green chili. Sauté for a minute.
5. Add the turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and cumin powder. Mix well and cook for a minute.
6. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they are soft and the oil starts to separate from the mixture.
7. Add the cooked channa to the pan and mix well. Add salt to taste.
8. Add 1 cup of water and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes.
9. Finally, add the garam masala and mix well. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
