Unraveling the Strickness- A Glimpse into My Parents’ Discipline Approach

Are my parents strict? This question has been lingering in my mind for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I often found myself comparing my life to that of my friends, who seemed to have a more relaxed upbringing. However, as I reflect on my experiences, I realize that my parents’ strictness was not a hindrance but rather a guiding force that shaped me into the person I am today.

My parents were born in a generation where discipline and respect were highly valued. They believed that instilling discipline in their children would prepare us for the challenges of life. As a result, they were often strict about our academic performance, extracurricular activities, and even our social life. For instance, they made sure we completed our homework before engaging in any leisure activities, and they encouraged us to participate in various clubs and sports to develop our skills and teamwork abilities.

One area where my parents’ strictness was most evident was in their expectations regarding our academic achievements. They always emphasized the importance of education and made it clear that we were expected to excel in our studies. This meant that we had to maintain high grades and put in the effort to understand the material. While this may have seemed overwhelming at times, it also taught us the value of hard work and perseverance.

Another aspect of my parents’ strictness was their focus on our social life. They believed that it was important for us to interact with others and develop good relationships. However, they also wanted to ensure that we made wise decisions and did not get involved in any harmful activities. As a result, they were often overprotective, monitoring our friendships and limiting our freedom to explore. While this may have felt restrictive at times, it ultimately helped us develop strong character and make responsible choices.

Despite the challenges that came with their strictness, I am grateful for the lessons my parents imparted. Their discipline taught me the importance of responsibility, time management, and respect for others. It also instilled in me a sense of self-discipline, which has been invaluable in my personal and professional life.

In conclusion, while my parents may have been strict at times, their strictness was not without purpose. It was a means to guide us and prepare us for the future. Today, I appreciate their efforts and am thankful for the strong foundation they provided. So, when I ask myself if my parents were strict, the answer is yes, and I am grateful for it.
